LAC DU FLAMBEAU - Losing weight can be tough. Whether you have to lose ten pounds or even 100 punds, it's not easy.

But a Lac du Flambeau woman conquered this challenge thanks to a program available right here in the Northwoods.

34-year-old Cari Trapp is feeling fit and fabulous. The Lac du Flambeau mother recently dropped 220 pounds with the help of a medically-managed weight loss program.

"My health was really bad, my blood pressure was out of control and I was just very unhappy with the way I looked and my doctor was nagging me to try the program," Trapp says.

Cari enrolled in Ministry Medical's Health Management Resource or HMR program. It starts with low-calorie, pre-packaged meals and shakes and eventually adds in fruits and vegetables.

"That's where we see on average the greatest amount of weight loss-when we combine all of the patients of all the HMR programs the average amount of weight loss on the decision-free diet is about 60 pounds," says Pam Morton from the program.

Cari says her new lifestyle of exercise and healthy eating is helping her maintain her new shape. While her weight loss journey wasn't easy, she says it was worth it. She says this billboard keeps her motivated to stay on track.

"I wanted to be a good role model for my kids and I want to be around for them. I was a living heart attack waiting to happen," she says.

Cari says she's looking and feeling healthier these days. She's starting a new career as a certified fitness trainer and wants to help others reach their weight loss goals.

"Along the way I met a lot of people, a lot of people who helped motivate me and inspire me and I want to give back to other people," she says.

Cari says maintaining her weight loss will not be easy. But one look back at how far she's come keeps her motivated to keep going.

The HMR program is available at Ministry Medical Group and the Marshfield Clinic.

Program representatives say many people who are on medicines for various medical conditions often reduce the amount of medicines or even eliminate them altogether after losing weight on the program.
